About Us
STATEMENT OF FAITH
This Statement of Faith for The North Tennessee Bible Institute and Seminary was approved by the Board of Directors in 1971 and has remained as follows since that time:
"We believe that the Bible (both the Old and the New Testaments) is the inspired Word of God. We believe that Jesus is the Son of the Living God and that He died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood. We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord Jesus Christ, are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become Children of God. We believe that only that which is accomplished by Jesus Christ through the ministry of the Holy Spirit will bear fruit for eternity."
PURPOSE
The North Tennessee Bible Institute and Seminary was established for the purpose of offering prospective lay ministers, teachers and missionaries the opportunity to study and prepare for full-time Christian Service. It was also established for the purpose of licensing and ordaining ministers and missionaries of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to provide guidance and leadership in all areas relative to the performance of such ministry. The Institute is a not-for-profit corporation. It is governed by a Board of Directors, who believe, that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. Our goal is to help every person, regardless of race, color, creed or ethnic origin, to have the opportunity to study the Word of God, even if they are financially unable to do so.
HISTORY of the INSTITUTE
The North Tennessee Bible Institute and Seminary was the outgrowth of a vision given to Dr. William Corley, Dr. Roy Neeley, Mrs. Mary McCraw, in 1970. It was incorporated in 1971 in the State of Tennessee as a not-for-profit corporation and applied for and received from the IRS its Tax Exempt 501 C(3) status on April 30, 1973. In 1972, Mrs. Ursula Beach became the fourth member of the Board of Directors. Later that same year, Dr. Davis Lee Potts became interim Chairman of the Board of Directors. In September of 1975, Mr. And Mrs. Oscar Beach donated the Old Smith Home on West Avenue to the Institute; and this home became the location until 1994.
We hold affiliate membership in the Evangelical Training Association, an association of over one hundred schools of higher learning. Since the Institute has such a fine reputation for academic excellence and has proven since 1970 to graduate only the very best students, many academic institutions accept full transfer of credit from The North Tennessee Bible Institute.
We Are Accredited
North Tennessee Bible Institute and Seminary is authorized by the Commission for Independent Education of the Florida Department of Education to grant degrees. NTBIS is a religious, nonprofit institution that exists only for the purpose of training men and women to serve God. NTBIS holds membership in The International Commission on Academic Accreditation. In the US, accreditation is a private function managed by non-governmental agencies. Having accreditation in itself does not guarantee acceptance by another school. Each school decides which credits and degrees they will accept. Anyone wanting to transfer credits or degrees should check with the specific schools in mind as to their policy. NTBIS credits and degrees have been accepted by several other institutions, including Liberty University (Lynchburg, VA), Fuller Theological Seminary (Pasadena, CA), Louisiana Baptist University (Shreveport, LA), Austin Peay State University (Clarksville, TN), Mid-Continent University (Mayfield, KY) and several other State Universities. We hold to high academic standards for both students and faculty. The members of our faculty have earned graduate degrees from some of the most highly regarded universities and theological schools in America, including Vanderbilt (Nashville, TN), William & Mary (Williamsburg, VA), University of Tennessee (Knoxville, TN), Belmont University (Nashville, TN), Ohio State (Columbus, OH), Howard University (Washington, DC) and Union Theological Seminary (Dayton, OH).
